Sumana released her debut album The Flight on May 14, 2026. The pop-folk singer and songwriter draws on warm vocals and unadorned lyricism, echoing the intimacy of Norah Jones and Katie Melua. Her path began with a business-school degree and a corporate career she left behind. By 2016, she was performing in the Paris metro, guitar in hand, and by 2018, she had committed fully to life as an independent artist. Over 200 concerts later, her performances have reached festivals and venues including the Hôtel du Louvre and Trianon Palace Versailles. In February 2026, she received formal recognition from the French Ministry of Culture for work outside conventional channels; in March, she was named Audience Favorite in a national competition and a BRUT documentary tracing her journey has surpassed one million views.
The Flight began as a personal song, anchored by the image of a young bird poised at the nest’s edge, a metaphor for the space between hesitation and the leap forward. The album’s refined melodies and understated production center the internal shift, allowing Sumana’s voice and lyrics to carry the emotional weight. Rather than resolving uncertainty, the record lingers in it, inviting listeners to trust their own instincts. With production by Valentin Montu, mastering by Alexis Bardinet, and percussion by Grégory Jacques, two collaborations expand the palette of this release: ‘We’ll Be Fine’, featuring Vanupié, a collaborator from her metro days, and ‘Breathe‘, a duet with her sister Sahana.
What stands out most is how Sumana’s gentle singing and honest lyrics focus on freedom, choice, and change. The music feels soft, but the decisions behind the songs are strong, the same decisions that led her to change her life. After her 2022 EP Easy, The Flight is her clearest statement yet as an artist who follows her own path instead of waiting for approval from others.
