Shizo van de Sunflower, aka Daniel Blum, returns with the Elektro Punk EP, as he delivers a big shot of sonic rebellion. He’s been at it since the 1980s, starting with C64, experiments in the tech space that grew into a full-blown career. He teamed up with DeForm2 in the 90s, and his solo work, like Simple Mind, Drone 1, and Changes has helped him build his following. Shizo’s a Dresden icon, running 90s House and Techno events that keep the underground alive. His tracks, often steeped in thoughts on depression, hit fans right where it counts.
This EP’s four tracks fuse techno’s thump with punk’s bite, echoing DAF with German vocals driving the charge. ‘Das Mikrofon’ launches with an unyielding techno beat that digs deep into raw, industrial territory. Over this solid basis, a soprano sample from Kristina Sop drifts in—ethereal and delicate, its classical resonance clashing beautifully with the track’s mechanical edge. The interplay fuses EBM’s gritty pulse with an unexpected melodic fragility, carving out a sound that’s both jarring and hypnotic. ‘Ich war mal Punk’ calls out former rebels now chasing crypto and real estate, and ‘Herz aus Stein’ finishes strong with an instrumental techno jam that pulls you into its hypnotic grip.
Shizo van de Sunflower shared, “What happens when old punks jump into crypto and the super agent fantasy meets a cold techno beat? That’s the ‘Elektro Punk EP’, hitting on 1 August 2025. I took inspiration from DAF’s raw early days and crafted four tracks that shift from anger to irony to pure dance vibes.”
