On July 17, Montréal-born and Ottawa-based artist Eau the Music (pronounced ‘O’ the Music) released ‘In This Silence’, the lead single from her upcoming self-produced debut album, Light in the Dark. Without formal training, she turned to songwriting later in life, developing her craft through instinct and experimentation. She wrote, produced, and mixed the entire album independently, channeling an artistic awakening into direct explorations of self-discovery, love, loss, and the subtle beauty found in moments of transition. Her live performances now expand on the intimacy of her recordings, with a full band bringing added warmth, depth, and dynamic energy that underscores the music’s vulnerability and resilience.

‘In This Silence’ moves through hazy dream-pop atmospheres, layered shoegaze textures, and the kinetic pulse of alternative rock, drawing on the exploratory spirit of acts like Metric, Pixies, and Radiohead while establishing its own distinct identity. Shifts from major to minor harmonies recall Wolf Alice, sustaining emotional tension throughout. Ethereal arrangements reveal understated melodies, while the instrumental builds and candid lyrics resonate more deeply because the track allows space for anticipation, drawing the listener further into its unfolding arrangement.

Eau the Music had this to say: “In This Silence’ is an ode to the liminal: in relationships, loss, and the relationship I have with myself. What started as an emotional outpouring of discomfort with the in-between moments of life ended up being a call to embrace stillness and the magic it can bring.”
