Annie Goodchild’s latest video release has put a whole new spin on her single, ‘Ether’. While the track is a gorgeous piece of music on its own, the music video draws out some very dark and powerful moods from within the track, which makes it all the more enthralling. Goodchild has explained that the concept for the song was, “a reminder to balance out all the self doubt with self love,” something which takes on new meaning when paired with the visuals in the music video of Annie seemingly trapped in some kind of darkness, always trying to push herself forward.
Even without looking deeply into the emotional subtext of the video, it is a work of art. The lighting has been used in such a way that grips the viewer ferociously. Parts of Annie’s face are shrouded by darkness and we get this beautiful image of her in her light dress pushing through the shadows. Another thing that makes the video all the more powerful is seeing Goodchild sing the song herself in the video – she is a natural when it comes to the arts, and theatre is no exception. Looking at her passion and her struggle within the darkness of the forest, one is mesmerised and wants to be rid of the dark clouds that swirl around her.
