Yukimi, the celebrated vocalist and co-founder of Grammy-nominated group Little Dragon, is stepping into the spotlight with her debut solo album For You, set to release on March 28th. Alongside this exciting announcement, she has unveiled two singles, ‘Sad Makeup’ and ‘Winter Is Not Dead,’ both showcasing her deeply personal storytelling and signature artistic flair. Reflecting on ‘Sad Makeup,’ Yukimi shares, ‘I wrote [it] about those days when you try to push down and control a sad felling… growing bigger as an energy.’ In contrast, ‘Winter Is Not Dead’ draws on her Scandinavian roots, exploring themes of transformation and resilience during the darker seasons, with Yukimi likening personal growth to the quiet yet vital processes of nature preparing for spring.
On For You, Yukimi explores themes of love, loss, and feminine energy through a soundscape that blends jazz, soul, electronic pop, and hip-hop influences. Her transition from band dynamics to solo artistry has resulted in some of her most intimate and authentic work. Last year’s single ‘Break Me Down,’ co-written with Erik Bodin and Lianne La Havas, offered fans a glimpse into her solo journey, complemented by a stunning music video shot at Hovs Hallar, a nod to Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal. With collaborations spanning from Gorillaz to KAYTRANADA.
