Indie-rockers from Hull, The Avenues, are already electrifying ear-holes with their November 10 release, ‘Office Wear’. Known for their raucous energy and infectious hooks, the four-piece band has already carved out their own mark on the music scene with sold-out shows, main stage festival performances, and support from acclaimed acts such as Spector, The K’s, and The Royston Club. Composed of Tom Foston (lead vox and rhythm guitar), Ollie Brown (lead guitar and backing vox), Joe Galloway (bass and backing vox), and Kurt Jackson (drums and backing vox), The Avenues‘ music is characterised as being a vividly emotional, and frantically anxious fusion of indie-rock melodies. And yet their music retains a hint of warm, Summery sun in their rhythms. Stream the new release below:
After putting out their previous single, ‘Another Movie’, the group has graced the public with another banger of an indie ballad. ‘Office Wear’ delves into the frontman’s childhood fears of a soul-crushing corporate job – resplendent with suffocating ties, phonies and crippling commercialism. As the track progresses, these fears are juxtaposed with an adult’s childlike dreams of escapism. Catchy progressions and slick hooks populate the track’s bars; tightly arranged and easy on the ears. The new single exudes a massive atmosphere, with a hopeful element that runs throughout as Tom croons through an exploration of a monotonous and overwhelmingly bland office culture.
Speaking on the subject matter of ‘Office Wear’, frontman and rhythm guitarist, Tom shares: “The song was born out of childhood fears of growing up into a predictable life, and the childlike hopes of an adult dreaming of escape.”
