Humans have always been drawn to water. Water is life. It’s growth. We have a spiritual connection to the ebb and flow of each tide as the moon sits ever present in the sky. Chantitown’s latest single, ‘River’ has a similar effect as you can’t help but wade through this record, allowing yourself to be engulfed by her sultry vocal work.
Chantitown is set to release her upcoming EP, ‘Nightingale’, on 14 December and has shared the second single ‘River’ to help the time go by faster.
With an extraordinary desire to create timeless material that knows no boundaries or limitations, London-born Chantitown combines empowering and inspiring music with her genuinely gifted lyricism and storytelling abilities, a skill she developed whilst writing expressive poetry at the early age of only thirteen. Chantitown takes inspiration from iconic singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Carol King and Tracy Chapman, to the electronic and trip-hop sounds of Massive Attack, Portishead and MGMT and, stylistically, her sound can be compared to current artists Lorde, Bat For Lashes, Aurora and Lamb.
‘River’ sees Chantitown heading into familiar territory, but with a slight fresh edge. From the beginning, you’re treated to a pulsating beat driving the listener forward. Soft synth chords can be heard in the background as Chantitown’s vocals are in the spotlight. Just like the title of the track, ‘River’ has a distinct flow to it that is hard to ignore; you sway along to each drum, hum along to each backing vocal and soar alongside Chantitown in the chorus as her voice glides above the effortless production. A promising artist, we’re excited to see what she will be sharing on the 14th of December when her EP drops.

Chantitown comments on her new single, “I have a little boat on the River Dart in Devon, the setting is beautiful. I spend much time drifting, writing… reflecting. My connection to water runs deep. Not only does it heal me on a cognitive and emotional level but its a place of sanctuary. It leads me to do all I can to fix what is broken in my life. This song is a story of someone who was broken and the River was where the acceptance and healing began.”
