Calling all hopeless romantics and avant-pop lovers attention – songstress Fifi Rong has shared the visuals for her ‘Only Man’ single. Let’s just say if you were hoping for a love song, you have been fooled by the title. This song, among many on her upcoming solo album release There Is A Funeral In My Heart For Every Man I Loved, which deals with the bad aspects of a relationship that has turned sour.
The ‘Only Man’ video starts off on an eerie note with the glitch between a harsh red filter, that cuts between Fifi standing in a sunny field. One can already tell that this is not going to be a soft & sappy video that expresses mutual love and connection. The video directed by Zee Marla Osh, an artistic inspiration to Fifi, had the intention to cut between these two polar opposite frames to introduce the theme of a disconnected atmosphere, which ties into the lyrical meaning – tastefully disorientated.
Fifi’s flair for experimenting is the perfect match for director Zee Maria Osh approach to her art. The songstress previously commented on her music style with The Playground (read interview) : “A bit of dub, a bit of trap, a bit of IDM, a bit of ambient and a bit of Jazz…. and so forth. Whatever I can think of, there’s no rule. I think a sense of freedom is underlying everything I do. Imagine if I had to create within a genre. That would feel like a prison to me. “
