Rising star Greentea Peng releases a new single Revolution’, alongside an accompanying video directed by frequent collaborator Melody Maker,  listen / watch above.   The dubby,  reggae fused ‘Revolution’ is a companion piece to the meditative recent single ‘Hu Man’ with the singer and songwriter continuing to create music which is both powerful and prescient,  guiding the listener through these fractured times.  She delves into the meaning of the new single here;

“A result of recent turmoil: political, societal, and individual. 2020, a painfully transformative year for the collective. Revolution is a product of this pain and also the anger we’ve been struggling to move through, at the same time it represents the hope conjured. A reminder to remember where the first revolution must take place and also a reminder to be aware of where and what we put our energy and belief into.”

“Revolution” follows the aforementioned “Hu Man” and the March release of “Ghost Town”,  a deeply personal and political clarion call on the gentrification on Greentea’s doorstep in London but which equally addresses a global crisis. She also featured on the Mike Skinner single “I Wish You Loved You as Much as You Loved Him”,  a perfect meeting of minds taken from the acclaimed new The Street’s mixtape.  These tracks follow a triumphant 2019 which saw the release of her acclaimed EP, RISING  and a viral performance for COLORS of her single “Downers”. She made her debut TV performing “Hu-Man” on Later With Jools Holland on BBC2 .

Greentea Peng’s cosmic,  gauzy,  low-lit music weaves elements of R&B,  neo-soul,  break beat and reggae,  anchored by a languid voice which nods to the likes of Sade,  Jill Scott and Erykah Badu,  all filtered through a purple haze.  The singer is dark and light, half soul-searcher and half wise-cracker. In a constant explorative state, she is honest and frank, her inner battles channelled through the rhythms and flows of her music. Her energy beams bright whether she’s touching on darker matters or happier moments.
