Indie pop sensation Rose Devika has released her latest single, ‘i take it personally’, today. The track blends her signature emotional lyricism with a witty, lighthearted twist, exploring the relatable complexities of navigating relationships. Speaking about the song, Rose shares, “The song is about taking someone else’s mood (a romantic partner in this case)to heart. It’s meant to be slightly tongue-in–cheek but also honest about the way it feels when a partner tells you not to take their moods personally, but it all feels, well… personal.”
Rose’s creative fingerprints are all over the track, which she single-handedly wrote, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered. Starting with an acoustic guitar part inspired by the vulnerability of relationships, she crafted a beautifully layered sonic atmosphere featuring bass, drums, electric guitar, keys, a cello arrangement, and a catchy piano riff. Interestingly, her lead vocals, initially intended as scratch takes, were kept for their raw and genuine emotional delivery. The result is an upbeat indie pop anthem that contrasts introspective, slightly sarcastic lyrics with vibrant instrumentation.
Now based in Dallas, the Toronto-born artist continues to push boundaries as a producer, mixing engineer, and storyteller. With her self-titled 2024 EP already showcasing her artistry, ‘i take it personally’ is another example of her ability to connect deeply with listeners.
