‘Andy Warhol’, that was released December 2nd on Amelia Recordings/Symphonic, deepens the ever-shifting universe of Plain Mister Smith. Once the guitarist for Moev and now a cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, he has become a master of genre-hopping while staying unmistakably himself. His Spring 2026 album is already stirring anticipation, with singles lighting up tastemaker outlets like NPR Music, Wonderland, CLASH, NOTION, Under The Radar, Earmilk, METAL, Noctis Mag, Atwood Mag, and more. Splitting his time between Vancouver and London, he crafts a sound that fuses indie-folk roots, psychedelic rock textures, and lyrics that dance between cleverness and introspection.
On ‘Andy Warhol’, he leans into a more forceful rock build. The track locks into a punchy rhythm section, its guitars cutting clean lines while the dual-vocal approach brings real contrast. Leeroy Stagger’s rich raspy tone gives the song its anchor, and Krystle Dos Santos lifts the chorus with her soulful, floating harmonies. Even with its heavier lean, the song keeps the idiosyncrasies that have defined his recent output, putting it in conversation with the work of War on Drugs, Pavement, and Lou Reed.
Plain Mister Smith revealed: “I met Andy Warhol many years ago at the New Music Seminar in New York. He was pretty chill and serene or seemed that way. He was quoted to have said “So What this, So What that”? which is about the most Zen thing you could ever say. ‘Andy Warhol’ the song, is about trying to be super Soto Zen, trying to be cool and so nothing phases you but really, you’re just a chaotic mess of a human, no matter what you do……”
