Independent Australian-Swiss singer-songwriter and producer Dave Curl has unveiled his sophomore LP, Lockdown – Seven Nations on February 23, 2024. The album, receiving support from notable tastemaker EARMILK, follows the release of his scathing single, ‘Lockdown’, on January 19, 2024. Boasting over 1.5 million streams on Spotify, airplay on numerous indie radio stations in Germany and abroad, performances in the respected Kulturkoller Club and around 20 other locations as well as appearances at festivals like The Valley Summer Festival (Switzerland), Dave Curl has shown no signs of slowing down since his solo debut in 2019. In the years since, the prolific performer has released nearly two dozen singles, two EPs, and the 2021 full-length album, Introducing. Having previously been compared to the likes of Milow and Bono, Dave Curl’s sound is a soulful mix of folk, pop, and rock, his music is for fans of irreverent, anti-establishment music from the likes of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Lou Reed.
The original single ‘Lockdown’ provides a powerful perspective on a turbulent world through the rebellious spirit of rock and roll. In the English Rap Version, the urgent minor-key guitar chords remain, but Dave Curl’s vocals are replaced by UK Rapper Creepzz, who delivers an introspective flow reflecting on isolation and the challenges of Covid-19 lockdowns. Dave Curl’s angsty vocals return for the impactful chorus, resulting in a genre-blending and contemplative track.
Dave Curl revealed: “During the Covid-19 time I had all these emotions that just needed to be expressed in a creative way. At the time I was just overwhelmed about all the “shitshows” going on, but with some distance and time I found the hook (chorus) for the song and could finally use all those pages I had filled with words of anger, fear, hope and disbelief.”
