Indie pop-rock band The Valmonts have unveiled an electrifying new EP, Living In A Paranoid Trance, released on the 20th of October 2023. The Dublin-based quartet is composed of Darragh Whyte (vocals, guitar), Keith Whyte (drums), Cathal Sweeney (guitar), and Tymek Kocurkiewicz (bass). Influenced by the likes of New Radicals and INXS, the band has a distinctly indie rock feel with a pop polish and mainstream sensibility, with a sound reminiscent of The Kooks and The Vaccines. Their music has been featured on major publications like The Clash and received airtime on over 50 international radio stations. They have performed at Irish festivals like the Wild Roots Festival in Sligo and sold out shows at Whelans Upstairs in Dublin. One of Living In A Paranoid Trance’s pre-released singles, ‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’, garnered early premiere support from Notion Magazine, as well as an inclusion on GoldenPlecs ‘Irish Songs You Need To Hear This Week’.
Living In A Paranoid Trance is brimming with irresistibly catchy melodies and hooks, tasty guitar licks, bubbling synths and fabulously tight drumming. Whyte’s resplendent vocals soar over this exciting instrumentation, exploring themes from lost loves to independence to existentialism. Thematically, the EP is emotionally-charged and draws you into a world of introspection and feeling. Musically, it captures and delivers its thematic content with cohesive style and flair, masterfully merging the charisma of indie rock with the playful palatability of pop.
“We have managed to live in a privately defined world with ‘Living In A Paranoid Trance’ for a while now,” the band remarked. “It has been the soundtrack to the last few years of our lives and we’re really excited to finally put it out into the world.”
