Hailing from Galway but now based in Dublin, indie-rock ensemble The Valmonts unveiled their latest single, ‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’, on September 15th through Watts Hill Records. This electrifying track is a precursor to their forthcoming EP titled Living In A Paranoid Trance. The band’s music journey has been bolstered by the enthusiastic endorsement of notable publications such as Clash Magazine, Hot Press, RTE Entertainment, and Music Crowns.
The Dublin rockers have also graced the stage at the prestigious Wild Roots Festival in Sligo, and shared lineups with acclaimed acts like Rudimental and Kaiser Chiefs. Their music even found its way onto the international airwaves through an appearance on RTE 2XM’s ‘Passport Approved Show,‘ broadcast to over 50 stations worldwide. Notably, ‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’ received an early premiere from Notion and earned a coveted spot on GoldenPlec’s ‘Irish Songs You Need To Hear This Week‘ playlist.
‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’ boasts an irresistibly catchy sound for both the cool kids and your mom, carrying with it an air of mainstream sensibility while still staying edgy and full of rocking moments. While the verses are gentle and pensive with rythmic guitar licks and subtle drumming, the chorus unleashes an anthemic euphony of sound abound with power chords and resplendent vocals that shine in their delivery. The lyrics delve into topics we all hold dear, (and not so dear), focusing on the irrepressible emotions we all feel when trying to reconnect with an ex-lover and the moments that come from it, often ending with tears and a stiff-drink. This is a track that firmly lodges itself in your mind, defying all attempts to escape its firm and infectious melodic grip.
Speaking about the track, the band had this to say: “This song came together in the most natural way possible. The four of us one day at rehearsal jamming. Darragh had some lyrics he had previously been working on and by the end of the day, we had a full new song. Recording it was a whole other story. There are more guitar tracks on this song than we can count”
