The colour blue is synonymous with feelings of melancholia. And, as is true of most emotions,  these feelings often arise in a range of intensities. Aware of this spectrum, singer-songwriter Lilith Merlot has mixed and matched the various hues of heartbreak within her new EP titled Shades Of Blue.

The lead record ‘White Lies’ is a confessional love letter or rather a confrontation of sorts. In it, we can hear Lilith speak to an ex-lover, readily admitting that dishonesty has caused the death of their relationship. All of this is set to an easy listening instrumental comprised of warm electric piano, live drums, and a bed of layered vocals. What was the experience that inspired Lilith Merlot to write this song and EP?

“I started writing the songs on this EP after a very unexpected and painful breakup,” she explains. “I found myself not being able to talk about it, so I sat down behind the piano and wrote my way through it.”
