London based producer, DJ and label boss Elkka (real name Emma Kirby) announces a new EP titled “Euphoric Melodies”, due out 21st May, marking their first release on Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour. The 5 tracker is a warm and euphoric exploration of what Emma values most – the ability and freedom to believe in oneself, “Honing in on your instincts and being able to trust those feelings, whilst being comfortable to do so’ comments Emma, ‘acting on impulse over perfection”.
Speaking more on the EP Emma says:
“Euphoric Melodies started out as an exploration of what pulls me in, what makes me feel those moments of elation when writing music or listening to it or just when living life. The underlying theme seems to be warmth, euphoria and nostalgia…which is what plays out in this EP in different forms. Little did I know that as the EP came together nostalgia for euphoria would be so prevalent”
Lifted from the forthcoming EP is new single ‘Burnt Orange’ – a sentimental homage to family, fit for sun kissed dance-floors and front rooms alike – “I wanted to create music for both intimate and public spaces“, Emma adds. The track crackles with optimism and warmth, beautifully textured and delicate but at the same time bold and bright, a theme which continues throughout the record.
“Euphoric Melodies” follows on from ‘I Miss Raving’, released last year on Local Action. The Track is Emma’s ode to the club and it’s absence throughout 2020 – which was widely praised and received coverage from the likes of FACT, DJ Mag, Earmilk and Resident Advisor who described the track as “Effervescent and rich with feeling, this is pop-focused house at its finest”.
Deciding to take full artistic control over her music Emma made the shift from singer / songwriter to producer and artist in 2016. During the same year she also founded femme culture – a record label and collective born out of the desire to champion women and non-binary DJ’s in the arts and push forward-thinking music standing for inclusivity amongst all genders, backgrounds and beliefs. Over the years Emma has gained support from well known peers such as Four Tet, Floating Points, Caribou, George Fitzgerald, SHERELLE, Annie Mac and more.
“Euphoric Melodies” is out on the 21st May via Technicolour, with new single ‘Burnt Orange’ out now.
